NEWS FLASH: Tyler Green is crushing the Western States Endurance Run again
I'm sadly not there to write on the race this year, though Ty's thriving all the same.
Today my brother, Tyler Green, is running the 100-mile Western States Endurance run for the fourth time, and he’ll cross the finish line in Auburn, California, sometime this evening. After finishing 4th place last year and 2nd place the year before, Tyler’s running a terrific race so far. Right around the halfway mark, he’s in 5th place (Ty typically hangs back and makes passes late in the race, so this is a shift in strategy). According to the announcers, look “fresh as a daisy” at Devil’s Thumb.
In other words, our guy has a shot to win it all. GO TY!!! You can follow along live on YouTube below, or check in with the standings at this link. Also, Nike made that sick t-shirt of Ty riding a bucking bronco and it’s awesome and I want one.
I’ve written extensively about Tyler’s exploits at Western States before. You can listen to the piece I wrote for Osprey Packs here:
And here’s one of my earliest hits here on Substack, an article about Tyler’s amazing, heartwarming 2nd place finish in 2021.
I’m in mourning not to be at states this year… darn long covid! Next year in Auburn!!
Tyler just passed through Foresthill in 3rd place and he's 11 minutes behind the two leaders, Tom Evans and Dakota Jones. He looks very good right now.
Foresthill is an old mining town with a party-like atmosphere. Runners also say its where the race truly begins. The next 39 miles will be riveting!
