I'm glad that Rothko speaks to you. His quadrant work reminds me (a little) of Josef Albers' square explorations. I was immersed briefly in Albers' work when Vic and I toured European art museums in the 80s.
One of Albers' major works stayed in Manhattan, though it is not typical of his other square work. In fact the title of the work is "Manhattan". Laura and I saw it in 2022.
