On Faith & Science, Jerry Jr., Omelets, Story Clubs, and Five Letter Words
A few links which inspired my thoughts and actions lately.
This week I experienced two extremely different visions of American Christianity. The first was a half-hour interview on NPR’s Up First with Dr. Francis Collins, wherein the former head of the NIH discusses how he became a Christian and how faith in Jesus affected his work in scientific fields. The second is a long Vanity Fair piece titled Inside Jerry Falwell Jr.’s Unlikely Rise and Precipitous Fall at Liberty University, wherein the televangelist’s king-making son says he was never really into the faith in the first place.
On one hand, a leading intellect drawn to the light of Jesus. On the other, one of the nation’s most famous PKs pressed into inevitable rebellion by religion which values business savvy and shady ethics over the Fruit of the Spirit.
I have more to say on both, so in commemoration of both the end of White Winter and the arrival of its horrifying Gray counterpart, I figured I’d package my thoughts with a few other web addresses changing my life lately.
