NEWS FLASH: Tyler Green Is Running Mont-Blanc This Week
And in other news, will you build me a cool page break?
At the end of Part 2 of my recent article for Osprey Packs, I mentioned that my brother Tyler’s next trailrunning quest would be the Ultra-Trail Mont-Blanc (UTMB), which I feel safe in saying is the world’s most prestigious trail race. I figured he’d take a year to train, then head to Europe next August. Instead, Ty is in Italy right now, and he’ll run UTMB this weekend.
This race is a big deal in a couple ways. First, trail races are much more celebrated in Europe than in the United States, so UTMB is heavily broadcast. (You can follow along here.)
Second, while the Alps aren’t as scorching as the Sierra Nevadas, the race is harder. The Western States Endurance Run, where Tyler placed 4th this June, is 100.2 miles long with 18,090 feet of elevation gain. UTMB, by comparison, is 106 miles long, with 32,940 feet of vertical climbs.
Tyler crewed light for the travels and will be hanging out in the midst of trailrunning royalty this week. Most of us, including Rachel, will be watching the more expansive coverage from here in Oregon.
And now onto the request…
You see that vague horizontal line above this sentence? That is Substack’s default Page Divider. It’s a perfectly serviceable divider and I have no complaints!
However, Substack allows for customized Page Dividers, and I’ve found they add a unique feel to newletters I admire, like the branch in George Saunders’ Story Club…
…or the custom sketches on Simon K. Jones’ serialized novels…
My point here is I want some cool and special dividers!
They can’t be that hard to make, and maybe I could craft my own, but I thought, Well, some excellent artists read this newsletter. Maybe they have better ideas.
I have budget for this, so if you’ve got any ideas for these page breaks, or reworking the logo, or other ways to fancy up the Green Room, please reach out! And I could use more than one! I’d just love to have some unique art woven through these articles.
Otherwise, more Green Room stories are on the way. Readers have shared their appreciation for stories about me getting in trouble in the Army. I’m grateful to you for saying so, and glad my tales of mild humiliation can be of service! If you’re new around here, maybe you’ll like them. I’ll plan to close out that series with Part 3 sometime soon.
I hope you’re enjoying this warm Yellow Summer and that back-to-school sales aren’t filling you with too much angst. Our summer travels are through and I’m looking forward to wearing layers and the routine of school days. Lana is looking forward to seeing her friends in person. We have high hopes for fall!
That’s pretty much all the news this week. Tyler’s running UTMB and let’s collaborate on some small digital art!
Thanks, as always, for reading.
I can't help you on a cool page break, but I'm impressed with your brother's athletic endeavors. All best wishes to him!
